Introduction

Please let us introduce ourselves: we are ONHEIL, a blackened death band from The Netherlands. The basis of our music is furious black and death metal, to which we add dynamic song structures and memorable hooks. Fans and magazines also hear Thrash Metal in our riffing and energy and Heavy Metal influences in our well-thought-out songwriting, harmonic melodies, and solos. In the end we just try to write a damn good metal song!

Our 3 guitarists give us the capabilities to create a more unique, layered, sound to our riffs and melodies while our 2 vocalists create a powerful scream/growl dual vocal effect. The triple guitar attack also gives us a bigger live sound and with our energetic and audience-focused live attitude each show ends up in metal choas.

The 23rd of June 2023 our lastest, amazingly well received, album ‘In Black Ashes’ was released by Swedish BLACK LION RECORDS and starting November 2024 we wil be celibrating our 25th anniversary. The album has been getting high ratings and awesome fans responses, which you can read about a little bit further on this page. A first 1999 demo song has been re-released and more special ‘25 years of ONHEIL’ (re)releases and shows are coming up!

Short Biography

After dwelling in the metal underground since 1999, with a few demos and an EP on a small label, it was March 2007 when ‘The New ONHEIL’ arose. This new line-up consisted of 3 guitarists and 2 lead singers, giving the band more possibilities to expand their own unique blackened metal sound.

The return was announced with the release of a music video and an online single. ONHEIL continued to spread their name with their live shows, including opening for MAYHEM, a show with VADER and playing the STONEHENGE FESTIVAL with ENTOMBED and BELPHEGOR. This sparked the interest of German Record Label CYCLONE EMPIRE which released their full-length album ‘Razor’ in 2009. ‘Razor’ was received extremely well and got high ratings by the media.

ONHEIL unleashed their second album ‘Storm Is Coming’ in 2014. The album has taken the band’s musical style to a higher level with its more interesting compositions and better sounding production. The album was received even better than their previous album, reaching the ‘10/10’ rating quite a few times. ONHEIL’s music reached a larger audience, gaining mostly fans throughout Europe, USA, South-America, even getting messages from metalheads from countries like Japan, Israel, Egypt, Russia, Lithuania, Mexico, Costa Rica and Indonesia.

With the success of their three albums ONHEIL was able to share the stage with major metal bands from both the black and death metal scene as well as thrash and heavy metal bands. Open air festivals played include PARTY.SAN OPEN AIR, EXTREME FEST (in 3 countries), METAL MEAN, STONEHENGE and playing shows with bands like MAYHEM, VADER, ONSLAUGHT, ROTTING CHRIST, ASPHYX, CARACH ANGREN, THULCANDRA, WIEGEDOOD and an event with IMMORTAL and KAMPFAR (unfortunately, the entire event was cancelled by mismanagement of organisation)

After some private life problems, record label issues, huge bandmember changes and Corona pandemic setbacks, ONHEIL is back! Anno 2025 the band has a new strong line-up of experienced musicians and unleashed a critically acclaimed album, mixed and mastered by the legendary Dan Swanö, and released by BLACK LION RECORDS from Sweden. So far, almost all reviews of ‘In Black Ashes’ are very positive: a 13/15 from LEGACY (DE), a 9/10, 4th place in the Soundcheck, by POWERMETAL.DE (DE), a 92/100 from ZWARE METALEN (NL) and 80/100, with a supportive story, from AARDSCHOK (NL) to name but a few.

Celebrating their 25th anniversary, ONHEIL will play as many live shows and tours to play our new, and old, songs live for our fans and convince new metalheads of ONHEIL’s music! Also some special releases are coming up…
